This statement applies to the PlaceWell website and placement platform at [website URL]. We want everyone to be able to use PlaceWell, whatever their access needs. Where this page shows a detail in square brackets, that detail has not yet been confirmed for publication.

1. Our commitment

PlaceWell is used by people with a wide range of access needs, including people who use screen readers, magnification, speech recognition or keyboard-only navigation. We design and build with that in mind, and we treat accessibility problems as defects to be fixed, not as requests to be considered.

  • Every page has a skip link, clear landmarks and a logical heading structure
  • The service can be operated with a keyboard alone, with visible focus indicators
  • Form fields have labels, and errors are described in text rather than by colour alone
  • Changes of page and important updates are announced to screen readers
  • Text can be resized and the layout works on small screens

2. The standard we are working to

We are working towards [WCAG 2.2 Level AA]. This statement describes how far we currently meet that standard.

3. Known limitations

We know that some parts of the service are not yet fully accessible. We list them openly so you know what to expect, and so you can ask for an alternative.

Documents uploaded to a case by other organisations are outside our control. Where a document you need is not accessible, contact us and we will help you obtain an accessible version from the organisation that supplied it.

4. Other ways to get information

If any part of the service does not work for you, we will provide the information or complete the task another way. That can include:

  • Talking it through with a member of the team by phone
  • Receiving information by email in a format that works for you
  • A member of staff completing a form with you
  • [Other alternative formats offered, e.g. large print or plain text]

There is no charge for this, and you do not need to explain why you need it.

5. Reporting an accessibility problem

If you find a barrier, please tell us. It helps to include the page address, what you were trying to do, what happened, and the browser or assistive technology you were using — but tell us in whatever way is easiest for you.

6. What happens next

  1. We acknowledge your report within [acknowledgement period].
  2. We reproduce the problem and assess how much it affects people using the service.
  3. We tell you what we have found and, where we can, offer an immediate alternative way to complete the task.
  4. We fix the problem or add it to the known limitations table above with a target date.
  5. We come back to you when the fix is released.

If you are not happy with how we respond, contact [accessibility escalation contact]. If you are in Great Britain and believe you have been discriminated against, the Equality Advisory and Support Service can advise you.
